The Drug Education Forum is the umbrella body for national organisations that deliver or support the delivery of drug education in England.
The Drug Education Forum is a forum of national organisations committed to improving the practice and profile of drug education in England. We hope this website contributes to that aim.
We believe that drug education should help children and young people develop their knowledge about drugs, their skills in taking decisions, and to develop a positive attitude towards their own health.
Drug education mustn't be a subject just for schools or the youth service; evidence suggests that parents and carers who talk to their children regularly about drugs, alcohol and tobacco have a beneficial effect.
The Drug Education Forum will be holding a free seminar on the afternoon of 12 February to explore the opportunities and risks for young people in delivering drug education out of school.

Speakers will be:
The event is being held at the National Youth Agency in Leicester, and will run from 1 o'clock until 4:30 pm. Download the flier here.

Drugs Guidance ConsultationThe government have launched a consultation on new guidance to schools on drugs issues. As well as giving advice on how to handle drugs education in the classroom, the guidance stresses the importance of schools having clear policies in place to deal with incidents with illegal drugs and alcohol on school premises. Heads are also encouraged to forge stronger links with other local services to help them better identify and support over a million children and young people who live with one or both parents who have a drug or alcohol problem. However it is not enough simply to ensure there is sufficient time in the school day. We need to be confident that what young people learn about drugs and alcohol is factually correct and effective in helping them grow up safely. Read more |
